The name comes from the French "citron", lemon. Citrine was long called the merchant's stone and kept in cash registers and tills for prosperity, a piece of folklore practical enough that shopkeepers still do it.

Brazil is the major source, alongside Madagascar and Zambia.

Caring for your piece
Keep it away from perfume, hairspray and cleaning products, and put it on last when you are getting ready. Store each piece separately so harder stones cannot scratch softer ones.
Clean it with a soft dry cloth. Take jewellery off before swimming, showering or sleeping, and natural stones will hold their colour and their polish for years.
